In an area located near the historical center of Colle Val D’Elsa is one of the most original and controversial architectural interventions of the Italian architecture during XX century. Giovanni Michelucci’s Banca a Colle Val D’Elsa.
In 1973, Monte dei Paschi di Siena instructs the italian architect to design a new company headquarters in the urban area of the Tuscan village This area was occupied by a disused glass factory, what follows is a significant project that let to talk about itself in a national and international context.
What makes this a unique creation is definitely the choice of the architect Michelucci to relate to the context placing the building in opposition to it. He has built a very complex structure built on five floors above ground colored by a strong red.
If we walk through the streets of Colle Val D’Elsa and we run into this area, we can be fascinated by this intervention that, of course, stands out as a rock within the urban fabric, but it is also true that at the same time, it adds value to the urban landscape.
It will not be unusual to see boys playing football in the fully public space left on the ground floor – is characterized by a large vacuum made possible by the steel structures that allow large spans, it looks like a big square, an attempt to create a public space.
