New Air Terminal for Rouyn-Noranda Airport

Rouyn-Noranda Airport has unveiled its new air terminal, designed by EVOQ Architecture and ARTCAD. The terminal enhances the city’s status as the primary hub of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region and pays tribute to the mining and forestry industries.

With its transparent design, the terminal offers panoramic views of the tarmac, while wood is extensively used in the public spaces. The hybrid wood and steel structure, featuring glue-laminated timber beams and cross-laminated timber slabs, seamlessly connects the interior and exterior. The copper-colored metal roof serves as both a daytime solar shield and a nighttime lantern. The terminal’s aesthetic represents the city’s unique identity, situated “between fault and forest.”
